Welcome to Internet Marketing Barcelona!  So much to go over for a successful online marketing campaign.   From day one when you decided to create a website, your were probably thinking “Design”, and who will you hire to create that design?  Website design is a very important factor for the time when visitors arrive at your online business display…  yet, it is only about 5% of the battle against all the competition out there in Internet land because the main battle is to get them there!.

Everything you do from day one has to carefully thought out with “The Mind Of A Marketer”.  Even the decision as to which domain or set of domains to secure… example: Will the searching public be more likely to type “Ted & Johns air conditioning repair”, or “Barcelona AC Repair”?  Baecelonaairconditioning.com would be your best bet as over 80% of the searching public use the major search engines and rather simple and direct keywords (and having your targeted keywords built right into the domain name is always best).  Yes, some search engines give weight to a keyword rich domain name.

You will soon realize that “Web Design” and “Internet Marketing” are two completely different jobs, now if we could get the web designers of the world to have the “Mind of a Marketer” when they create the web sites how easy would that be?  I will go over that in another section later called “Naming”.

Keyword research, your first task!  What is your targeted audience, and exactly what are they typing into the search engines?   (Not what you and I think they should be typing, but what they really are typing).

Correct Naming Of Everything

Here is one very important difference between simply getting a web designer and bringing in an Internet Marketing Expert…  here is also where the “time” factor comes in…  Most designers use scripts and templates, we all know this to be true.  In fact, most business owners simply want to get online when they decide it is time, True?  And the majority of designers are building the site to please the one paying them…  not the general public who will be using the site to create more business for the business owner…  crazy huh?  Again…  the mind of the marketer…

Here is the bottom line with naming things correctly…  search engines read text, not images!  The time factor for the designer will be to quickly and easily name the images… examples: image001, image002, spacer, top, bottom, image003, logo and so on…  lol   This crap has nothing to do with what is on that page does it?  Why not feed the search engines more useful words since that is what they read?   Duh?   Use hard, time consuming names like “barcelona_air_conditioning_logo.jpg” or “air_conditioning_repair.gif”  Again, the mind of a marketer.

LOL… this one kills me…  page names!  page10, 1, 2, 3, and of course when they link to these pages using images!   why not match a text link: “Air Conditioning Filters” to a page called “air_conditioning_filters.html”  Yes, it may be a bit more time and money to create it properly.  But it may also be time to review some of your website components and names.  (saves money in the long run)

More on this later…

Keyword Research

Your very first task…  Keywords and Keyword Phrases Research!  This is not what you and I may think people are typing into the search engines, but what they are really typing…  you do want to hit your target audience correct?  Always keep in mind that there are no classes out there for “How to search the Internet”.  Hmmm  there should be huh?   Anyway…  here is an example of what I mean:  Would the searching public type “Ted and Johns air conditioning repair” or would the majority type “Barcelona AC repair”?   They would only type the first if they already knew about you maybe…   The best domain would be: barcelonaairconditioning.com of course!  (and if marketed correctly, they would still find you by typing “Ted and Johns” as a prefix.  And some search engines only give weight the first 3 words you type and ignore the rest.  So, Keyword research is very, very important as your first step!  Acutal tools to do this research do exist online, some are free to use, some require a fee to use the entire tool…  you will have to decide what your project is worth.  (or, hire someone with a keyword search tool account).  See… now you are beginning to think with the mind of a marketer…
